AM Inbox: Don’t play ‘hide the click’
RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:
Home Depot, 6/21 — Keep it Cool with AC's and Fans
I was trying to check out the paint offer in this email and I had to click three times before being able to click through. The first time I clicked on the image of the Glidden paint can—but it wasn’t clickable. Then I clicked on the green “25% Off” text—but that wasn’t clickable either. I was only successful when I clicked on the orange “LEARN MORE” link. It shouldn’t be that hard. Why not make everything clickable? Home Depot made the main image of the ceiling fan clickable, so why not the secondary images? Make it as easy as possible for readers to click through to your content by making all relevant images and text clickable.

Coach, 6/21 — See What's New For July
This is a different tactic for Coach. I haven’t seen them ever do a “what’s new this month”-type email before. Coach’s emails rarely have much text, but this one could really use some to call out notable products or trends. The color washes on the two right-hand sections also really take away from the product presentation; they make it hard to tell what the product looks like. This is a case of style over substance.

EBags, 6/21 — Buy Invitation Only: 24-hour sale event starts now
I’m not sure if “Buy” is a pun or a mistake here. If it’s a pun, it’s not a particularly great one.
