American Eagle Outfitters, 5/31 — 15% off...topped off in Polos and Tanks.
A while ago I was reading a post on Smith-Harmon EDM Review about how J. Crew “owns” the inbox with its full-bleed backgrounds (read that EDM Review post). It’s worth noting that American Eagle Outfitters is the only other major online retailer to do this. Sometimes they use solid colors, as in this email, and other times they’ve used an image of a blue sky with clouds. It can be quite striking and definitely gives their email a unique look that helps them stand out.

Coldwater Creek, 5/31 — Welcome to our new website and take $25 off!
In this email announcing the redesign of Coldwater Creek’s website, it feels like two different creatives were forced together. The “$25 off” and “Welcome” sections have different widths and the latter uses a lot of sans serif, putting it at odds with the former. Also, from the subject line I assumed that the new website is the main message, but it’s pushed down to the bottom and smaller than the discount message.
Anyway, for the curious, see what Coldwater Creek’s website looked like last September, courtesy of the Internet Archive.
