I’m not sure what the problem was with Sunday’s email—perhaps broken links?—but whatever it was, SmartBargains felt that it was bad enough to acknowledge it and apologize. And they made it a heartfelt apology by giving subscribers a 20% discount. It’s a smart move to give subscribers a reason to forgive you and to interact with you again. This is a nicely executed apology.

For me this subject line is just vague. Not mysterious or intriguing; just vague. Urban Outfitters is making me do extra work here by withholding that the deal is on women’s t-shirts. I have to clickthrough to find that out instead of them respecting my time and using a subject line like “Women’s Tees: 2 For $25,” which would let me know if I’m interested enough to click through.
