RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

Gap, 10/4 — Black, White & Red All Over: Fall's Hottest Color Trend
In their latest email, Gap plugs Stylehive, a social bookmarking community built around fashion. Along with Nordstrom, JCPenney and others, Gap has their own community on Stylehive, where the popular products (those with the most saves) are displayed. Stylehive makes it easy for members to blog about the products by generating code for their blogs, and also has a send-to-friend feature that allows members to email their friends about their favorite products.

Omaha Steaks, 10/4 — SPECIAL OFFER... The Perfect Wines for Your Omaha Steaks!
As a regular Omaha Steaks customer, I was a bit surprised to discover that they have a Wine Club. This is the first email that I’ve seen promoting their wine, and there’s no indication that this is a new product category for them. So this email confused me a bit. It made me think that I missed something. Clearly there was an opportunity to introduce wines to subscribers at some point, or to mention them as a pairing to their meat packages. The other thing that would build greater awareness of their product selection is adding product department navigation to their emails. Indeed, Omaha Steaks is one of the few retailers that doesn’t have this as a standard element of their emails.

Orvis, 10/4 — Win $100 by reviewing Orvis Gear.
Orvis is the latest retailer to incentivize subscribers to write product reviews for them, realizing that the availability of product reviews increases sales. Like virtually everyone else, Orvis is offering up gift cards. Back in May, Sears offered reviewers the chance to win a $250 gift card (see May 3 AM Inbox), and in April Blair offered $300 in gift cards (see April 25 AM Inbox) and Alibris offered $100 in books (see April 4 AM Inbox) to encourage review writing.
