Macy’s breaks from their usual template with this email from President Kent Anderson. In it, Macy’s informs/reminds subscribers about improvements they’ve made, like better product pages and checkout. Many of the things listed were mentioned in prior emails, like the reorganization of their beauty department (see Oct. 1 AM Inbox), the introduction of furniture online (see July 30 AM Inbox) and the introduction of The Martha Stewart Collection (in a July 29 email). The different format of this email can break through the clutter and be a good reminder of reasons to shop with Macy’s this holiday season. It also shows that looking back through your email campaigns can be a good reminder of important developments at your company.

With Halloween falling off email marketers’ calendars, now’s the time when more and more retailers will make the shift to Christmas promotions. Drs. Foster & Smith is a good example of this; while their email last week had the subject line “Halloween Blowout Sale,” this week’s is a sneak peek at holiday goodies. Also notice the wish list banner. Pushing wish lists early in the season gives shoppers a place to store ideas until they’re ready to pull the trigger and either buy them themselves or share the list with others. This email also includes the announcement of a new monthly pharmacy email newsletter.
