Neiman Marcus, 11/3 — An advisory from Neiman Marcus
Clearly responding to phishing attempts using their brand name, Neiman Marcus warns their subscribers against giving credit card or any other kind of information to people soliciting donations for southern California wildfire victims and claiming to be Neiman Marcus. In addition to sending this warning, Neiman Marcus is doing their part of fight phishing by having their sender address authenticated with DomainKeys (and hopefully Sender ID as well). Authentication helps recipients and ISPs determine if the sender is who they claim to be. Every marketer should have their email authenticated.

Road Runner Sports, 11/2 — Your Concern During the Fires in our Hometown
Road Runner Sports explains to subscribers how they were affected by the California wildfires, apologies for the affect they had on their service and offered a discount in return for their continued patience, and asked people to donate to the American Red Cross. (Road Runner was also authenticated by DomainKeys.)

OfficeMax, 11/2 — Your November 4 Weekly Ad Is Now Online
OfficeMax has redesigned their email headers, so that it better matches the style of the site redesign the announced in September (see Oct. 1 AM Inbox). The new design (1) drops the search box, (2) drops the “Shop now…” preview pane message, (3) drops “print services” from the navigation bar and adds “electronics,” (4) the “furniture” tab is moved down the nav bar, and (5) the store locator link gets an accompanying graphic. Unlike many recent redesigns, this one increased the height of the header, giving OfficeMax slightly less space in preview panes.
Here’s the new design…

…and here’s the old design:

Norm Thompson, 11/2 — $5 ships any order! Plus holiday fashions that flatter you.
On the heels of JCPenney (see Nov. 2 AM Inbox), Norm Thompson has begun a holiday countdown of their own. The unique twist that they bring to it is that they’re counting down the Saturdays left until Christmas, rather than the number of days until Christmas or until the end of guaranteed delivery with standard shipping. Perhaps customers will get more urgency from seeing that there are only 8 Saturdays left versus 40-some-old days left.

Chadwick’s, 11/2 — Oops, Our Website was Down but Our Secret Sale is Back U p!
Chadwick’s has again had problems with their website and have issued another apology (see Oct. 1 AM Inbox).
Saks Fifth Avenue, 11/3 — Saks Fifth Avenue New York Store Events
Email can be a great way to drive subscribers to stores. In addition to in-store only deals and ship-to-store options, notifying them of store events can be a fruitful strategy, especially if your flagship store is near them. For instance, every month Saks Fifth Avenue sends out an email to their subscribers in the New York area, letting them know about events in their flagship Fifth Avenue store, where there are multiple events practically every day.
