Sam’s Club, 11/12 — A taste of the holidays in the club
As the shipping deadline in this email attests, we’re quickly coming up on the end of the Thanksgiving season—Thanksgiving sales are another matter all together. And there’s evidence of that shift in this email, with Sam’s giving subscribers a Black Friday teaser toward the bottom of this screenshot. This is an interesting tactic that I haven’t seen any other retailer use yet.
PetSmart, 11/12 — Presents for precious pooches plus a personalized credit card!
There have been quite a few credit card pitches lately—surely to get customers new credit lines to spending during the holiday season—but this jumped out at me because of the different strategy. Rather than focusing on rates and rewards, it appeals to pet-owners’ pride and love for their pets. So it’s more of a lifestyle appeal than a product features appeal.

I love Smith-Harmon's enthusiasm. It's so great to have a connection with people who really "get" and get excited by email marketing. (Truly, there are not that many of us out there!) I count myself very lucky to have found such accomplished enthusiasts to collaborate with on the REI program. They are helping to bring amazing opportunities to fruition with panache.
