Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:

The RetailEmail Index fell 1% to 196 during the week ending Nov. 9, but is up 7% from where it was four weeks ago.

*The RetailEmail Index is a general measure of the email volume generated by 100 of the top online retailers.

Last week, 91% of the retailers in the RetailEmail Index send out at least one email, down from 94% the week prior, but up from 90% during the 4-weeks-ago period.

Christmas (Dec. 25): The retailers in the RetailEmail Index sent 70 emails referencing Christmas and the holidays last week, up from 50 the week before. Just like last year around this time, I think we’ve reached the point where tracking Christmas references makes little sense, because soon enough virtually all emails will references the holidays. So this is the last week where I’ll break them out.

Thanksgiving (Nov. 22): There were 14 references to Thanksgiving last week, up from 5 the week before.

Veterans Day (Nov. 11): There were 7 emails referencing Veterans Day last week, up from zero the week before.

Halloween (Oct. 31): There were 2 emails referencing Halloween last week, down from 23 the week before.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October): There were no emails referencing Breast Cancer Awareness Month, down from 1 the week before.

Other things referenced by retailers: parties, coats/jackets

I love Smith-Harmon's enthusiasm. It's so great to have a connection with people who really "get" and get excited by email marketing. (Truly, there are not that many of us out there!) I count myself very lucky to have found such accomplished enthusiasts to collaborate with on the REI program. They are helping to bring amazing opportunities to fruition with panache.
