AM Inbox: Building off-street cred
>>Retail Email Unsubscribe Benchmark Study released. Read the executive summary.
RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:
L.L. Bean, 1/29 — Today's Forecast: Dry and Comfortable, Guaranteed
At the bottom of this email, L.L. Bean has a banner for their first annual Outdoor Heroes Awards, which honors “those who have dedicated their time to preserving the outdoors.” They recognize the work of three people and include short profiles of them. This is a great way of building their outdoors cred, showing that they not only care about the outdoors, but also are in the know enough to honor those who have contributed to its preservation. I say that last part because they make no mention of accepting nominations, so I assume they made the selections internally. If they were to take nominations next year, it would give them a chance to reach out to their customers and engage them.

Saks Fifth Avenue, 1/29 — GREEN HOUSE...Shop, Learn, Live
Saks is the latest retailer to jump on the eco-friendly bandwagon, introducing their Green House collection of “eco-smart style.” (Explore tag: eco-friendly.)
Neiman Marcus, 1/29 — Meet Rachel Roy & shop beautiful new spring styles
Neiman Marcus again demonstrates the link between animated gifs and video in this email. In this example I do wonder if they would have benefited from having the “Watch the Video” button on the first frame of the gif as well.

Here’s the animated portion of that email:

Banana Republic, 1/29 — Covetable Cashmere + A first look at Monogram
As a secondary item in this email, Banana Republic announces the launch of their new Monogram collection, which appears to be finer tailoring at higher price points.
SUBJECTIVITY SCANNER:
Sports Authority, 1/29 — SportsAuthority.com: Footwear Deals + NFL Championship Gear
Harry & David, 1/29 — Tempt your true love: Our gourmet gifts melt hearts!
1-800-Flowers, 1/29 — Luxury for your Valentine!
MLB, 1/29 — Shop our Valentine's Day Gift Guide!
Sharper Image, 1/29 — FREE SHIPPING, in time for Valentine's Day!
