RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:
J. Crew, 1/23 — Sale & free shipping: it's true
J. Crew is doing a lot of sender domain shuffling all of a sudden, which makes me wonder if in the wake of the holiday season they’re having deliverability problems. They only increased their email frequency 50% during the holiday season, which was just slightly more than the average increase from retailers (see Reportlet: Holiday Retail Email Volume Soars), but perhaps J. Crew’s subscribers were more sensitive to the increase. Or perhaps we’ll see more retailers changing their sender address to try to reestablish a good sender reputation. Anyway, up until Jan. 19, J. Crew had been sending their promotional emails from jcrew@click.jcrew.com. But then they switched to jcrew@e.jcrew.com. They didn’t notify subscribers ahead of time of the change as a few retailers have done in the past (see Reportlet: Retailers Gravitation toward Single Sender Addresses). And then for this email they changed the sender address again, sending from jcrew@jcrew.chtah.com—despite the fact that the whitelisting instructions still say, “Please add jcrew@e.jcrew.com to your address book to ensure our emails reach your inbox.” I’ll be keeping an eye on retailers’ sender addresses to see if there’s evidence that this is a wider problem.
