AM Inbox: A different way of presenting a video teaser

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

Banana Republic, 1/10 — Youre invited to view the Spring/Summer 2008 Fashion Show + a special offer!
Many of the emails that I see with links to video in them show a picture from the video in a media player frame, sometimes with a play arrow over it. That very clearly screams video and draws the eye. But it often seems to limit the retailer’s image dimensions and selection. While this creative treatment by Banana Republic doesn’t scream video, it does provide a nice arrange of fashion photos that may drive increased interest. It’s a reminder to experiment with how you present teasers for video content in your emails.

Neiman Marcus, 1/10 — NM Knew: Exclusives from names to know for spring
I’ve mentioned Neiman’s NM Knew program before (see Aug. 1 AM Inbox), but it’s worthy of another. NM Knew promotes up-and-coming designers whose fashions are available exclusively at neimanmarcus.com. For retailers with significant store bases, vetting new products or lines online before introducing them in stores can more safely put you ahead of the curve with hot new merchandise. And clearly email is the channel of choice to drive interest in these internet-only products.
