RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:
RedEnvelope, 1/30 — First kiss to lasting love Free shipping offer
Rather than breaking down Valentine’s Day gifts into product categories as many retailers have done, RedEnvelope breaks it down according to the intensity of your feelings toward that special someone in your life. That’s a fun and novel way of presenting Valentine’s Day goodies.

CompUSA, 1/30 — Top 25 Deals: 42" 1080p HDTV $799...
Last week Systemax reintroduced CompUSA to subscribers and included a prominent unsubscribe link at the top of their email (see Jan. 28 AM Inbox). In their second email since the relaunch, the unsub link remains, but they’ve made two changes: (1) They changed their sender name to “All-New CompUSA.com” from just “CompUSA.com” to emphasize the change. And (2) they’ve added back the whitelisting instructions and “view online” link—although some poor editing has the two parts running together to form a long semi-coherent sentence.

DisneyShopping, 1/30 — Email Exclusive - Special Delivery: Shipping Offer for Today Only
I totally recognize that subject line writing is an art and a science, but I’m this subject line could have been sharper and shorter than its current 65 characters. I think “Special Delivery” is the big dead wood here, and DisneyShopping seems to want to avoid saying what the shipping offer is, which seems tricky to me. If it was free, they clearly would have said so in the subject line. The also miss out on telling subscribers that the email is about Valentine’s Day gifts, which might also spark interest. So my suggestion is this: “Valentine’s Email Exclusive: $5 Shipping Today Only”. It’s specific about the offer, more specific about the product content, keeps the urgency and exclusivity, and is only 51 characters. Any thoughts about that? Other suggestions?

Office Depot, 1/30 — Ready for Tax Time? Savings Inside...
Office Depot is the latest retailer to introduce product reviews and to incentivize subscribers to write some. (Explore tag: Product Reviews.)

I'm voting for RedEnvelope - I may have to sign up for their emails. Victoria's Secret is in overdrive with their email campaigns - I'm averaging 2 emails a week from them regarding their semi-annual sale. No real word on V-day - although I'm sure that's next. Thanks for the info!
