AM Inbox: Manly men, we feel your pain

When you think of getting that special gift for your sweetie, I’m sure that the first retailer to jump to mind is Northern Tool, right? Really, you don’t? Well, in this email, Northern Tool pokes fun at the inappropriateness of shopping for Valentine’s Day gifts at Northern Tool while identifying with the difficulties that guys have in picking out gifts. The underlying message here is: “We think like you. We’re manly men, too.” It’s a fun list and totally in line with their brand image. Northern Tool ran a similar Valentine’s Day campaign last year (see Feb. 2, 2007 AM Inbox).

Macy’s, 1/31 — Tomorrow is National Wear Red Day - wear red to Macy's and save 15%!
Macy’s is using email to spread the word about a nice in-store promotion that combines shopping, a women’s charity and the “pinch me I’m not wearing green” interactivity and fun of St. Patrick’s Day. It’s refreshing to see an email that tries to drive store traffic without an in-store only coupon or store deals circular.
