JC Whitney, 2/5 — Our Apologies, We Goofed.
As if right on cue, on the same day that I release a reportlet on When and How to Say You’re Sorry, JC Whitney sends this apology email to correct a miscommunicated deal. The original offer was an apparently overly generous “$25 Off @ $50 or $125 off @ $250.” JC Whitney does a few things right and one thing wrong. In the plus column, they make it clear in the subject line that they made a mistake, and it seems by the wording that they were able to catch the bad email before it went out to their entire list. But in the minus column, they don’t really give subscribers a reason to forgive them. They had an up-to-50% off deal waved in their face and then rescinded. It’s hard not to feel a little cheated.

Crate & Barrel is one of the few other retailers that I’ve seen using their email programs to drive customers to their mobile offerings. This promotion only works for AT&T subscribers includes a sweepstakes, the ability to send animated flower greetings to friends and family, and the opportunity to sign up for SMS reminders.
Gap, 2/5 — This Just In: Spring's Wardrobe Essentials
Gap has recently redesigned the footer of their emails. They change some links into buttons, ditch their gift services section, and add a section promoting Gap Inc’s other brands.
