I saw this subject line and thought, “Awesome. Now here’s a retailer that’s plugged into the current psyche of the American consumer.” I clicked on the main call-to-action and it took me not to a list of money-saving secrets, but to your typical Costco product assortment page. I felt really let down—tricked, actually. They missed an opportunity to build some context around their product assortment by highlighting investments that will reduce costs, and probably left some subscribers feeling mislead.
