Omaha Steaks is the latest preheader message convert. RedEnvelope, Blair and Gap also changed their preheaders last month, adopting a preheader message. (Circuit City also changed their preheader…deciding to drop it completely.) (Explore tag: Preheaders.)

You can expect email pass-along rates in the low single digits just by having a send-to-a-friend link in your emails. But you can juice those rates by prompting subscribers to pass the email along in the main copy when you have particularly good content or a good deal. In this email, Hallmark supplements their “send to a friend” link in the preheader with a narrow banner directly under the navigation bar asking subscribers to pass the email along. A/B test adding a similar banner to one of your emails and see what happens to forward rates.
