AM Inbox: Timely and topical
The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:
Northern Tool, 6/19 — Chad, Be Prepared With Emergency Storm Supplies
You certainly never want to seem exploitive or insensitive, but I think this is a really relevant message in light of what’s been going on in the Midwest and along the Mississippi. The message: It pays to be prepared and Northern Tool has the supplies you hope you never need.

Home Depot, 6/19 — Online Only - Up to 40% off Lighting & Ceiling Fans
This is a fine example of a retailer combining promotional content with instructional content in a synergistic way.

Victoria’s Secret, 6/19 — Today Only! SWIM DIPS AN EXTRA 40%...select styles. Details Inside.
Victoria’s Secret is the latest major retailer to adopt a preheader message (explore the Preheaders tag), in tandem with a header redesign. The preheader message is now in addition to their “click to view” link. Other changes: They’ve added a forward-to-a-friend link above the nav bar and they’ve added a “gift cards” button to the nav bar. On first glance I thought that they’d used HTML text for their new nav bar, but it turns out that they’re still using images, unfortunately.

…and here’s the old preheader and header from a June 18 email:

SUBJECTIVITY SCANNER: Select noteworthy subject lines
