Week-End Trends: Halloween enters peak week

Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:

The Retail Email Index fell 2% to 219 during the week ending Oct. 17, and is up 2% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent about 2.2 promotional emails each on average last week.

The Retail Email Participation Rate: Tuesday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.

The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: The Columbus Day season fizzled out on Tuesday, so look for a brief Season Finale soon. Beyond that, the story remains the early push on Christmas—39% of top online retailers have already referenced the holidays in their emails—and the subdued number of references to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last week we also had our first reference to Black Friday. Look for the Halloween email season to peak next week…and then it will be all Christmas all the time.
