Week-End Trends: Retail Email Index continues post-Christmas decline
Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:
The Retail Email Index fell 4% to 209 during the week ending Jan. 9, 2009, and is down 42% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent roughly 2.1 promotional emails each on average last week.

The Retail Email Participation Rate: Tuesday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.

The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: With Christmas and New Year’s behind us, Valentine’s Day is the next major holiday on the radar screen (see Valentine’s Day 2008 Season Finale). We had our first reference to Valentine’s Day last week, but we won’t see a significant number of references for another week or so.

Other things referenced by retailers: clearance, winter, spring, NFL playoffs, resortwear, tax season
