AM Inbox: 3 cases of unavailable products

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

Bluefly, 3/3 — Haute Water - NEW Swimwear starting at 40% off!
Are your landing pages optimized to make it easy for subscribers to find the products featured in your emails? The landing page for this banner was not. I clicked through and spent more than 5 minutes yesterday looking for this peacock t-shirt. It should have been the first item on the landing page. Nothing erodes subscriber confidence than when the landing pages don’t match the products and discounts promoted in our emails.

Dell, 3/3 — Get Low Prices Today: Up to $339 off Select Dell Products
When I clicked through this email, Dell didn’t send me on the wild goose chase, but I also didn’t find the product I wanted. Instead I got this error page. As I mentioned in this year’s Oopsy Hall of Fame, broken links are all too frequent. You can eliminate them creating a pre-flight checklist together or using some of the checklists put together by the eec’s Email Design Roundtable.

TigerDirect, 3/3 — Deal Alert: Vizio 37" 1080p HDTV $499...1TB Ext HD $99, plus PC, Laptop, & LCD Deals‏
Often featuring limited-quantity deals, TigerDirect has taken the extra step of updating image files to show subscribers which deals are sold out. This prevents frustration while also giving their emails extra urgency—subscribers have learned that deals do sell out, so they need to open emails quickly to get the best deals.
