AM Inbox: Highlighting different nav bar tabs

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

HSN, 4/8 — 3-Day PRESALE! Today's Special Acer Netbook in 4 colors Only $479.90‏
Fairly regularly, HSN will add a department name to their sender name when the email is focused on that department. For instance, the sender name of this email is “HSN Electronics.” In addition to the lengthened sender name, they also highlight the “Electronics” tab in the navigation bar, emphasizing the call-to-action to visit that department. Old Navy does something similar (see Mar. 17 AM Inbox). If your nav bar never changes and all the tabs have the same treatment, you might consider mixing things up and doing some experiments. For instance, one thing that our clients find is effective is rendering their “Sale” or “Clearance” tab in red.

Fingerhut, 4/8 — Fingerhut: Take 15% OFF Your Order of $100 or More‏
Expect to see many more tax season-themed emails, like this one from Fingerhut, over the next week or two. Explore Tax Season tag, which also includes messaging around tax rebates/stimulus checks.
