The Retail Email Index rose 2% to a new year-to-date high of 245 during the week ending May 1, 2009, and is up 7% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent nearly 2.5 promotional emails each on average last week.
Year-over-year, the Retail Email Index is up 8% (moving 4-week average compared to comparable 4-week moving average last year).

The Retail Email Participation Rate: Wednesday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.

The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: Mother’s Day references will stay strong this week, but will be frontloaded with heavy messaging on Monday. It’s also noteworthy that several more retailers this year have mentioned Cinco de Mayo. As soon as Mother’s Day passes, I expect graduation messaging to start picking up.

Selling Seasons on the Horizon:

Father’s Day (6/21): Father’s Day 2008 Season Finale
