Bluefly, 12/2 — Baby It's Cold Outside! Extra 15% Off Coats
Do you have a swipe file of email subject lines that have been successful in the past? I’m pretty sure that Bluefly does because they used a variation on this subject line for a Dec. 23, 2006 email: “Baby it's Cold Outside...Extra 20% off Coats & Jackets.” I remember it because I liked the Bing Crosby song title reference. In fact, I like it so much that I included it in my 2006 Subject Line Hall of Fame. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you send an email. Go back to your swipe file of successful subject lines, creatives, submessage banners, dynamic content modules, etc. from past years and reuse and recycle to reduce your workload.
Harry & David, 12/2 — Hurry! Order by TOMORROW for Hanukkah arrival + $25 OFF your $99 order!
Harry & David is one of the few major online retailers that actively goes after Hanukkah sales. They’ve done it in past years and are doing it again this year. A few other retailers have made visual or date references to Hanukkah but haven’t mentioned it by name. For instance, Bed Bath & Beyond has promoted gift cards, including one with a menorah on it; and OfficeMax has promoted a Dec. 4 order deadline for delivery by Dec. 11, which is the first night of Hanukkah.
J&R, 12/2 — 10 Reasons to Shop at J&R this Holiday Season
This is a really nice brand strengths email. It quickly lists benefits to shopping with J&R in an easy to follow design—and the image of the bike messenger cracked me up. However, this message probably would have been more effective two weeks ago when people were starting to think about where they were going to shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you haven’t convinced shoppers that you’re worth shopping at by then you’ve probably already missed out on some sales.
