Reportlet: Majority of Retailers Fail Hotmail-Firefox Rendering Test
Because email clients support different CSS and HTML coding, getting your emails to render correctly in all the major email platforms can be challenging, especially since support tends to change without notice. Rendering challenges are compounded by the fact that the browsers used by subscribers can also affect how an email displays.
One rendering challenge arises from how Hotmail displays emails when viewed in Firefox. If emails are not coded properly, a border is added to every image. An examination of emails from 102 major online retailers revealed that 55% of them had not properly coded their emails to circumvent this problem.
This new 5-page report discusses this issue in more detail, shares examples, and provides the fix to avoid the issue.

I wonder if this is because email testing services such as Litmus only test Hotmail in IE, not Firefox, and as such get missed. As a habit, we send a test to personal Hotmail and Gmail accounts in addition to Litmus to be sure.
Eli, it's clearly wise to cover all your bases. I have heard from Fingerprint and Litmus will be adding multi-browser webmail testing in the next few months. Hopefully that will help raise awareness further about this issue.
Wow, thanks for this! I *never* check my Hotmail in FF. So I did and now look...little white lines. Soon to be fixed - thanks again!
Hi, Chad,
Thanks for this tip. I tried it today, and it worked fine on Hotmail. However, I am still seeing white lines on Gmail. What can I do about that?
Karla,
Hmm, that's probably an unrelated issue. Not sure what in your coding is causing that offhand.
