Bluefly, 1/28 — Yes, We're on a MAN HUNT
After talking about progressive profiling last week (see Jan. 27 AM Inbox), I was excited to see this email from Bluefly. However, I’m not sure it asked the right question. It makes the assumption that people only buy for themselves. The more important question is, “What are you most interested in: men’s or women’s apparel or both?” The answer to that question is more directly actionable. But the other issue with this email is that the radio buttons didn’t work. A simpler design would have been to have a “Man” and a “Woman” button that the subscriber would click. It’s one fewer click for the subscriber and simpler to code.
Spiegel, 1/29 — LIMITED-TIME OFFER! FREE Perfect-Fit Tweed Pants!
Secondary social calls-to-action like the one in this Spiegel email are still really new, but they’re definitely on the rise. It begs the question: Is a product comment on your Facebook page more valuable than a product review on your site? Of course, both might be worthwhile for your brand, but you’re clearly making a decision between the two in situations like this.
