Email activity and seasonal trends during the past
week:
The Retail Email Index: The top
online retailers sent each of their subscribers 3.6 promotional emails on
average during the week ending July 27, 2012. That’s up 2% week-over-week, down
2% from where it was four weeks ago, and up 15% year-over-year.
The Retail Email Participation
Rate: Thursday and Friday were the most popular days to send
retail emails last week.
The Retail Email Seasonality Meter:
Back-to-school messaging is pretty much right on track versus previous years.
Over the next two weeks we’ll see messaging at its peak for the season and then
start to recede. Christmas messaging during July is always strongest during the
final week of the month and that was definitely the case this year, with
holiday messaging coming in at the high end of the spectrum. More than 13% of
major online retailers have referred to Christmas or the holidays this month,
more than at any time in the past 6 years.
